Allie Fox is fed up. Angered by an America that "buys junk, sells junk, eats junk", and a world whose nuclear doomsday clock is always two minutes away from midnight, the brilliant inventor (nine patents, six pending) takes a bold step. With a mocking "Goodbye, America! Have a nice day!" - and vehement blind faith in his own abilities - Fox leads his trusting wife and four children into the remote Central American jungles of the Mosquito Coast to carve out a new society. Director Peter Weir, who took the world by storm with 'Picnic At Hanging Rock' in 1975, later went on to direct 'Witness' and 'Dead Poets Society'. In 'The Mosquito Coast', Weir created a vision of a utopian dream gone mad. Combine this taut direction with a performance by Harrison Ford that explores the dark side of heroism, and the result is a movie that compels and grips the viewers from start to finish.
